During an interview with Sky Sport, Roma CEO Umberto Gandini discussed today’s UEFA Champions League semi-final draw which saw the Giallorossi handed a mouthwatering tie against Liverpool. Here is what he had to say:
“We are very happy to be here. Now we have two matches against Liverpool, a club of great tradition. Salah as an opponent? Mo is having an extraordinary season. He expressed his desire to leave last summer and that’s how it went, but we do not forget how much he helped us. Thanks to his goals, we finished second last season and now we have arrived at this point.
“It will be a great night of football at Anfield, one of the world’s truly historic stadiums. Playing the return leg at home could be an advantage, as our fans will help us a lot… they want a rematch after we lost the final to them in 1984.
“With AC Milan, I won the Champions League three times. The other night against Barcelona I felt great emotions and now we have the opportunity to do something incredible.
“We have a duty to give it our best shot, for ourselves, for the coach and for the city. We are aware that we have the possibility to reach the final. The final Milan lost against Liverpool in Istanbul is part of my past, now I dream of playing another final with a club such as Roma.”
