Parents of disabled children are holding their 10th day of protests inside the Polish parliament, frustrated over what they consider a lack of adequate state help, one of several new challenges for the country’s conservative leadership.

Since winning power in 2015, the Law and Justice party has faced disputes with the European Union but has been largely popular at home. Some opinion surveys now suggest support could be weakening as officials find themselves struggling with new problems, including that of the protesting parents.

The parents say the state support they receive is far too low and are demanding more assistance.

The ruling party, which had pledged to fight corruption, has also recently struggled to contain a scandal over generous bonuses paid to government ministers.
