German authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy in relation to the fatal stabbing of a 15-year-old girl in the Western German town of Viersen, Police said on Tuesday.

Police said that the boy had turned himself in at a police station alongside his lawyer.

The girl was subjected to a stabbing attack in a park around midday on Monday by a man who subsequently fled the scene, police said in a statement.

She died later in hospital.
