Kenyans angry that lawmakers travel to watch World Cup

Photos of Kenyan lawmakers at the 2018 World Cup in Russia have angered citizens of the East African country in the light of the poor economic situation of the country.

It is reported that some Members of Parliament travelled to Russia to watch live World Cup matches at the expense of taxpayers’ money, reports Tuko.

Photos of the politicians enjoying themselves at the stadium circulated on social media moments before the kick off of the semi final clash between Croatia and England on Wednesday night.

In defence of the travelling lawmakers, Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa revealed his office authorised travel of six MPs from sports committees to go learn how such big sporting events are conducted.

Other reports indicated around 20 leaders flew down to the world’s largest nation for a two-week trip.

Kenya’s national team Harambee Stars have never qualified for the World Cup competition and the furthest they ever participated was at the African Nations Cup in 2004.
