The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, has received two ex-National Assembly members of the Peoples Democratic Party who defected to the APC in Akwa Ibom State.
The two defectors were Mr Bassey Etim who represented Uyo Federal Constituency, and Esio Uquong-Udoh, a former representative of Oron Federal Constituency.
Oshiomhole, represented by the National Vice Chairman of the party, South-South, Hilliard Etta, also received supporters of the two defectors.
He received the defectors after inaugurating a renovated three-storey building for the APC secretariat in Akwa Ibom State. The building on Ikot Ekpene Road, Uyo, was formerly occupied by the state PDP.
According to Oshiomhole, with the defection of Oquong-Udoh, the Oro ethnic nationality is complete and fully represented in the APC.
He said, “I welcome you to the party. I want you to know that this is a party of progressives. The rights and privileges enjoyed by old members will be made available to you.”
The Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr Nsima Ekere, said distinguished people of Akwa Ibom gathered in the inaugurated building at the advent of the current civilian administration to plan the governance of the state.
He said, “This is where we strategised, planned and from here, we captured Akwa Ibom State. Coming back here, I can only agree that the same thing will happen. Akwa Ibom people have gathered again to plot, plan and strategise to take over the Government House and return President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.’’
Responding, Etim thanked Oshiomhole and other party leaders for receiving them, adding that they were happy to join the group of progressives.
Also, Oquong-Udoh said he would work to ensure the success of the party in the state and for Buhari to return in 2019.
