The Medical Director of Embu Level V hospital, Dr. Moses Njue, has been suspended for allegedly assaulting a female doctor at the hospital on Thursday.
The alleged assault led to a protest by Kenyan health workers, who demanded the resignation of Dr. Njue, reports Citizen TV.
The health workers described the assault on the female doctor as “barbaric and uncouth.”
It is alleged that the chief executive assaulted the female doctor on Thursday at the outpatient department in the presence of patients.
Embu County Secretary Johnson Nyaga announced the decision to suspend Dr. Njue and appointed Neurosurgeon and hospital Medical Superintendent Daniel Mugendi Njiru to act in his stead.
Mr. Nyaga said that a meeting between the Public Service Board and the Ministry of Health at the county headquarters arrived at the decision following the public outcry. They also revealed that investigations into the issue had been launched.
The protesting medics welcomed the suspension by the county government promising to resume their duties.
