Early Life , Background And Career
P-Square brothers Peter and Paul Okoye was born 18 November 1981 in Jos, Plateau State Nigeria . Their journey into singing started at St. Murumba secondary school, a small Catholic school in Jos, Nigeria. They both joined their school music and drama club where they began singing, dancing, and mimicking songs by MC Hammer, Bobby Brown and Michael Jackson. After some time they set up an a cappella quartet called “MMMPP” (M Clef a.k.a. Itemoh, Michael, Melvin, Peter and Paul). They were influenced by their music idol Michael Jackson, and the eventually began learning break dancing, which led to the forming of another music group called “Smooth Criminals” in 1997 . They re-branded after some time and began calling the group “MMPP”. They gradually became popular as a result of their impressive and entertaining dance routine and they performed at school functions and other occasions.
In 1999, Peter and Paul thought it wise to attend a music school with the main of developing their skills on the keyboard, drums, bass and rhythm guitar. Later that year, they applied to the University of Abuja to study Business Administration. The members of Smooth Criminals started pursuing education which led to the disbanding of the group because each and every one of them left to various other universities. They later formed their own group, variously called “Double P”, “P&P”, and “Da Pees”, until they eventually settled on “P Square”. The group was managed by a seasoned concert promoter and the CEO of Adrot Nigeria Limited called Bayo Odusami aka Howie T.
