The Benue State Police Command said on Thursday it is in search for a former local government chairman in the state, Vital Ayoona, for his complicity in the communal clash in Konshisha Local Government Area of the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who fielded questions about the communal clash in Konshisha said, ‘police through intelligent report foiled what could have been a major crisis a few days ago’.
“Upon investigation, police discovered that a former chairman of the local government was linked to incident in the council, the former council boss is behind the recruitment of mercenaries from Guma and camping them.”
The police commissioner further said that twentyone suspects have been arrested for various offences in the state while two others died during a gun duel with police.
The state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni who briefed Journalists in Makurdi said that thirteen of the suspects were arrested for cultism, four for armed robbery and four for kidnapping adding that two armed robbery suspects were killed in the course of exchange of gunfire with police.
