A second medical reserve will be hosted by Germany

As of today, Belgium, the Netherlands and Slovenia have been added to the list of countries hosting rescEU medical equipment. In addition, a second medical reserve will be hosted by Germany, which is already a host country of rescEU . A total of nine countries now house common European stocks of medical equipment. Stocks now contain: more than 65 million medical masks and 15 million FFP2 and FFP3 masks; over 280 million pairs of medical gloves; nearly 20 million medical gowns and aprons; several thousand oxygen concentrators and respirators.“The coronavirus remains a serious health problem in 2021 and the events of the last year have taught us that we can never let our guard down. With these four additional medical reserves built up in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Slovenia under rescEU, the EU is ensuring that vulnerable groups and healthcare professionals are provided with the necessary equipment to protect the systems. across the continent and maintain their robustness,  ”said Janez Lenarčič , Commissioner for Crisis Management.This common European stockpile of vital medical equipment is distributed across Europe in the event of a medical emergency, for example when national health systems are overwhelmed by the number of coronavirus patients. It has already supplied essential medical supplies to Croatia, Czechia, France, Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.      The press release is available  online . SME vouchers: € 20 million grant fund to help SMEs maximizes their intellectual property assets

As of today, small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) can apply for financing under a € 20 million grant scheme to help EU companies to make better use of intellectual property rights. With the support of the Commission and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the Ideas Powered for Business SME Fund aims to help firms develop their intellectual property (IP) strategies and protect their IP rights, at national and EU level. Commissioner for Internal market Thierry Breton said: “ The coronavirus pandemic has hugely impacted SMEs. We want to help SMEs capitalize on their innovations and creativity to support their recovery. ” Open to all enterprises in the EU that fit the official definition of a SME, the new scheme offers financial support in form of reimbursements for IP scan services (IP pre-diagnostic) and trademark and design application, up to a maximum amount of € 1,500 per business. Today, the fund opens the first of the five application windows that will run throughout 2021. The new scheme (also called IP Voucher) is the first key action of the Commission's IP Action Plan published in November 2020.
